Benha National University launched an oral health awareness campaign under the slogan "Sana Lolly" on March 18th and 19th, as part of the celebration of World Oral Health Day, which takes place on March 20th each year. The campaign included field visits by faculty members and students from the Faculty of Dentistry at Benha National University to one of the schools in Al-Obour, affiliated with the Ministry of Education in Qalyubia Governorate, as well as a visit to the "Friends of the Bright Future" Association for the care of special needs groups.
The campaign included awareness discussions for the public, a simplified explanation of dental prevention methods, issues, and treatment procedures. It also featured an educational and entertaining segment represented by a theatrical performance by Dentistry students, covering methods of maintaining teeth and combating decay, in addition to student competitions, and answering various public inquiries. Dental care products were distributed to attendees to encourage them on the importance of maintaining oral health.
In this context, Dr. Gamal Sosa, Acting President of Benha National University, stated that the university’s celebration of World Oral Health Day represents the continuation of the university’s approach to launching various educational and awareness-raising events, alongside its continuous and effective communication with the local community in Qalyubia Governorate. He expressed his thanks to everyone involved in implementing this awareness campaign.
Dr. Sosa added that World Oral Health Day is an opportunity to increase awareness about the importance of oral health and its impact on overall health. Therefore, Benha National University’s focus on this event is aimed at contributing to spreading health awareness among citizens.
Dr. Suleiman Mostafa, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of organizing such awareness events regularly due to their positive role in raising the health awareness level in the community. He explained the university’s participation in World Oral Health Day as an opportunity to spread and enhance health awareness within the community.
For her part, Dr. Samia El-Azb, Acting Director of Programs at the Faculty of Dentistry, thanked the students and faculty members of the Faculty of Dentistry for their efforts in making the campaign a success, highlighting the significant interaction shown by the public, which was reflected in numerous inquiries about how to maintain oral health and care for teeth.
Dr. El-Azb added that the campaign successfully achieved its goals of raising public awareness about oral care, explaining that the importance of this “awareness campaign” stems from the fact that many oral diseases can be easily treated or prevented by following a good oral care routine.
It is worth noting that the World Dental Federation organizes an annual celebration for oral health during the month of March each year, with the participation of nearly 70 countries worldwide, to promote awareness of oral health issues.
